Asia Executives

How do executives of Asian companies differ from executives of American companies?

Chief Executive Officers and other leaders of companies based in Asia are known not only for a different management style than United States executives but also for vastly different pay scales.

Despite the size and technological innovation of many Japanese companies, the average salary of presidents of large corporations there is only approximately $500,000 per year. For comparison, the median CEO pay for Fortune 1000 businesses in the U.S. is $8 million. Importantly, Japanese companies don’t disclose pay for every top manager, instead they give only the total compensation for all the top managers – so the salary of the average president is an estimate, but a good one based on the data and insiders.

Besides disclosure differences, Asian executives – especially Japanese executives – are also known for their unique, team-based management style. Japanese auto executives often spent time on the factory floor in the exact same uniform as normal employees in order to foster unity.
