Short Term Gain
What is a short-term gain? Short-term gain versus long-term gain?
Broadly, a short-term gain is simply a capital gain made on an investment in a brief period of time. More often, though, a short-term gain refers to a capital gain made from an investment held for less than a minimum threshold set by the Internal Revenue Service that results in a higher tax rate than a long-term gain. One year and one day is often the minimum amount of time an investment must be held to qualify as a long-term gain.
