Searching for wireless numbers, usually called cellular or cell phone numbers, is extremely difficult. Unlike landline numbers, wireless numbers are not systematically aggregated in a large directory like landline numbers are in a phone book.
The major wireless companies do not offer a directory of the cell phone numbers they issue, and though searchable internet databases exist for wireless number they are generally small relative to the number of people using wireless phones.
The difficulty of searching for people’s wireless numbers is considered a benefit by many users – who don’t like the idea of strangers or telemarketers being able to find the number of their cell phone.
